Introducing the exiting new range of Smart Label making machines, utilising all Australian technology in the application and processing machinery. The RSLM is available in all standard RAPID formats from the existing RP range, and are machines designed to encapsulate an EAS (electronic artical surveillance) or RFID (radio frequency identification) tag into a fully embellished self adhesive label, swing tag, ticket, card, carton etc. We can also custom build machinery to suit your specific application, and we are currently working on High Speed full rotary versions of Smart Label inlet machinery.
This type of labelling will be suited to the high value adding markets in the short term and our prediction is, all retail/consumer products will have smart labels on them in the next few years as smart devices come down to the single digit cent level.
The video below will take some time to load. To watch some footage of the RSLM125 in operation please move your mouse over the picture when it appears.
Rapid are refining the design of new machinery for performing delam-relam of finished prime labels, with the insertion of RFID under the label for use in cosmetics, toiletries, wine and spirits, and other 'high sticker value' items. The process relies on being able to remove the label from the liner stock, accurately place an Rf insert, and re applying the label to encapsulate the insert. The advantages of this system mean the label supplier can supply labels to the bottling or packaging line, and in one operation both the product identification and the security tag can be applied. Leading to both improved product presentation and security. The printer can also get RFID and EAS insertion capability for his factory, without the need to retrofit or replace existing machinery, by the purchase of a single piece of equipment. Rapid can also supply and integrate variable information printing capabilty, and RFID and Barcode verification hardware for total product security verification.
We have just completed an RSLM 80 (pictured below) for an Australian customer. The machine is capable of applying two RF antennae, hotmelt glue as either adhesive patch or continuous coat, liner paper as a cover patch or continuous length, laminate either top or bottom with transfer adhesive, it can hotfoil print in two heads and print variable barcodes/serial numbers on either front and/or back of the web, overlaminate with protective polyfilms, diecut or punch shapes, and present either rolls or individual sheets of product to the customer. Feed stock can be either plain, tinted or pre printed material, and range from thin poly films through to medium weight cardboard, and semi rigid PVC. Contact us to see if we can handle your special requirement. The RSLM is available with an optional re-registration scanner for pre printed webs.

For ease of operation the machine uses a Nordson Hot Melt glue head, which is capable of applying glue in a pattern along the web, in conjunction with the RSLM integrated servocontrol. Glue can be simply switched off for set-up or short trials, and by applying the adhesive direct on machine, cost for adhesive can be brought down to less than 10% that of buying pre made transfer adhesives or self adhesive label stock.

When encapsulating RFID and EAS in swingtickets and cards, the glue weight can be controlled to achieve a thicker/thinner final product and better camouflaging of the tag in the finished product. By not relying on self adhesive card stock, the label maker has acess to a bigger range of roll card stocks, and can customise a job to a greater degree than available any other way.
For ease of operation and set up the RSLM range have all heads able to be moved independantly across the web and adjusted for twist. All heads except the main drive head are able to move along the web, and on the 125, 180 and 250 formats this motion is power assisted for major adjustments, and a handwheel is included for fine position control.
Other standard features available for the RSLM include, hologram re-registration for dedicated security hologram printing (along or across web), variable inkjet/thermal transfer printing, peel-tab insertion, booklet application, resealable closures, RFID verification and writing, Barcode printing, scanning, verification and data logging, linear slitting/perforating, single item punching, spray varnish, UV cure for inkjet, inline flexo tinting etc. If you don't see your requirement listed here, please contact us as we have probably had experience with it too.
