Rapid Service Bulletin. svs_010 12 /07 / 99 DRIVE CONTROL KEY PAD CHIP REPLACEMENT For all Rapid machines fitted with the interactive key pad "InDisplay" which have a green display screen. (not for machines with grey screens) The on board chip which contains the parameters and program may at some stage need to be changed for upgrading or replacement and the following sequence will make that job easy and fool proof. The chips are sensitive to electrostatic charges. So be carefull. 1) Turn the machine off and isolate the power supply. 2) Undo the screws holding the front panel to the press and gently ease the panel out of the hole. Place it upside down (face down) on a towel or something soft so as not to scratch it. 3) Remove the 4 small socket head screws the hold the aluminium cover on the back of the keypad and remove the cover. 4) With a chip removal tool gently grip the chip in the two diagonal corners with notches and squeeze the tool sides together. This will withdraw the chip from it's socket without damage. ( A chip removal tool can be purchased from most electronic or computer supply companies) 5) Align the new chip (chips are marked with the machine they are intended to run on and the version of the software) so that the small dimple in one side is at the end marked with an arrow in the bottom of the chip socket. Put the new chip in the socket by hand and press firmly into place. 6) Replace the cover and the panel into the machine and the job is complete. The machine will then need to be programmed with the new chip. Turn the power on. The keypad will come active and you should press This will bring up MENU 2 and you should press This will automatically download the new program with the parameters to run the machine. Enter your job data in the usual way and the machine is ready to run. Any time you wish to reprogram the drive just repeat these steps. Keep the old chip in a safe place in case of a failure. svs_010.DOC
